Lewis, Gary Satterwhite and Susan Karpel would like to recognize
the volunteers that made our 46th Annual Awards Banquet a
success. A special thanks to Ricky & Lisa Simmons for the great
dinner and Betty Simmons and Kathy Miller for the “Mardi Gras
décor”!
A big thanks to Debbie Johnston and her Newton High School Leo
Club students for serving the dinner. Thanks to Master of
Ceremonies, Mark Karpel, for keeping the program going, Steven
Dougharty for delivering our Invocation and Pastor Joe Miller
for the Benediction. A special thanks to David Hines for setting
up the sound system. Last but not least, thanks to Coach Barbay,
Coach Reich and the freshman football boys for setting up and
breaking down the tables and chairs; and the Methodist Church
for the use of their Christian Community Life Center. Without
these valuable volunteers, the banquet could not go on!
The Newton County Chamber of Commerce would like to congratulate
the following award recipients: Lifetime Achievement Award,
Gerald Pace; Citizen of the Year, Gina Crawford; New Business of
the Year, Southwest Designs By Gail; Outstanding Youth Service
Award, Joey Miller; Outstanding Youth Community Service Award,

YOU for the support of the Chamber!
The annual awards event has become a tradition the Chamber has
sponsored to honor those in our community that have given their
time and service to help improve the quality of life in Newton!
We appreciate all that bought tickets, for it is the ticket
sales that help cover the expense of the dinner, decorations and
award plaques!

Methodist Celebrate New Playground! |
The
Methodist Christian School (MCS) and First United
Methodist Church will host a Grand Opening of the new
playground on Wednesday, February 17, at 10:00 AM. The
playground is located on the side of the Christian
Community Life Center diagonally across from Hughes
Park. Refreshments will be served.
This playground contains some of the newest types of
equipment and a specially designed rubberized surface
for safety purposes. The playground and equipment meet
all Texas State requirements for safety. And most
importantly, it is a lot of fun for the kids while they
are building strong bodies by playing outside.
There will be a ribbon cutting and a blessing of the
playground. All are invited: parents of MCS children,
parents of children searching for quality day care,
community friends, community organizations such as the
Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce, governmental
workers, and all who are interested in caring for
children.
