The East Texas Historical Association, headquartered on the
campus of Stephen F. Austin State University, will sponsor a
one-day symposium that will review the legislative process
necessary in both states to launch the Toledo Bend Dam and
Reservoir project, and explore its economic and social impact on
the area of both states.
Thousands of Louisianans and Texans participated
in the project as landowners, construction workers, or,
ultimately, recreational tourists. All are cordially invited to
participate in the symposium, which will be held in the Wesley
Center of the First United Methodist Church of Jasper, Texas, on
Saturday, April 12, 2008. A catered lunch is scheduled with
registration—$10—beginning at 8:00 am. For further information,
or to register for the meeting, contact ETHA at 936-468-2407 or
amcdonald@sfasu.edu
The ticket price for the banquet is $20 per person and reserved
tables for 6 or more are available. All tickets are pre-sold
and will not be available at the door. Tickets can be
purchased at the Chamber of Commerce’s Visitor Center located in
the Powell Hotel Museum on Tuesday and Wednesday. Also, Orange
Savings Bank, Community Bank of Texas, E.L. Services and
Whispering Creek have tickets available during their business
hours. For tickets contact the Chamber office at 409-379-5527
