HUNTING & FISHING
IN
NEWTON COUNTY

Hunting opportunities abound in Newton County in coordination with the Texas Parks & Wildlife. Commonly called "Type II" hunting areas, these private or public lands are available for hunters to enjoy at a minimum cost. The ANNUAL PUBLIC HUNTING (APH) PERMIT that can be obtained for $40.00, provides nearly year-around hunting on thousands of acres in Newton County! In addition, a LIMITED USE PERMIT is available for $10.00 that entitles the permit holder to explore the Type II hunting areas for activities other than hunting game.

Hunting permits, as well as other hunting and fishing licenses, are available at Bob's Pawn Shop in Newton, Texas (409) 379-2057. They are open Monday thru Saturday from 9am-5pm. Permits are also available at the Newton County Clerk's office on Court Street, across from the County Courthouse (409) 379-5341. In addition, all hunting licenses and permits are available in any TPW office as well as the map booklet and supplement showing all the designated Type II hunting areas.

Other large landowners including the timber companies may have hunting lease opportunities available or can put you in touch with clubs that lease from them. Company land contacts can be provided by Emailing the Chamber.
